It was a tragic time when sports (a time when political differences are allegedly set aside) met with a brutal terrorist attack by Black September on Israeli athletes.
The ABC Sports crew was in a unique position in that they had a birds eye view of the events and could film and report on them in real time - during sporting events.
Writer/ director Tim Fehlbaum chose this unique media perspective to tell his story in his film September 5. What is the role of media in reporting these events? What should be shown on television and what should be held back? What is fair and balanced reporting and what is censorship?
Who owns the news story - regular newscasters or ABC Sports? Is it wrong to solely focus on ratings?
